Dallas, TX – On Saturday September 14, Oak Cliff artist Michael Savoie is celebrating the grand opening of his new studio/gallery near the Bishop Arts District with the solo exhibition of his painting series Expensive Waste. Please join us from 6-8pm for the exhibition opening and to meet the artist in introducing Savoie Gallery to the local arts community.
In the exhibition, Savoie presents a series of artworks that outline a specific understanding the artist has with the duality of modern pop culture and the social issue of irrelevancy. He uses the instinct of survival as the glue to connect two very different communities that seem worlds apart. Whether it is the fight to continue a lifestyle that has been created or the simplicity of finding your next meal or bed for the night, in that respect, we are all in a fight for survival. The goal is to inspire self-reflection in each viewer of the works rather than demand how people should feel.
Savoie executes a series of portraits that depict images of people in the homeless community of Dallas meshed with high-end brand logos readily identifiable by the general public. These medium to large-scale works are mixed media on canvas that blend Savoie’s sophistication for detail with an unconfined street art sensibility. From the vibrant colors to the composition, Expensive Waste is a refreshing addition to the Dallas arts community.
